Covenant with a Succubus (Jewish Demon Queen)

These testaments are player options for the Zealot class for KillJester's ttrpg Errant. They come from the playtest of my Jewish mythology megadungeon MYR REGATH, now cancelled for logistics reasons and has entered a hiatus. Now that it's on pause I can look at things more critically, and am even more excited to run it again at my FLGS.

Agrat bat Mahlat

אגרת בת מחלת

Acid-etched carving of Agrat bat Mahlat by my friend Yotzeret Sheydim

The succubus Agrat - daughter of the Demon Queen Mahlat - has found suffering in her success. Competing with her sisters to seduce the righteous and holy, she snuck behind the divine curtain and laid with The Venom Angel. Now further up the line of succession for her merits, she cannot take The Demonic Throne while corrupted by the divine essence taken into her body.

Cursed by divine contamination, she works to find and punish sinful mortals in a quest to exorcize the angelic corruption spreading throughout her body.

She rides nightly on a chariot borne by corrupted spirits, finding and punishing the sinful out under the moon’s light. She lays with mortals to bind them in a covenant, aiding her in her quest, walking the line between punishing the wicked and emboldening her demonic reputation amongst the righteous. Some are happy to join for punishment, others dream of love.

The Evil Eye: At a glance you can determine the degree of sin an individual carries with them. If you pass a Mind test, you can learn the greatest sin weighing upon their heart.

K’tav Sheydim: You can always speak to demons and understand their speech and writing, and you roll 3D6 for Reaction with them.
The righteous know.

TABLE OF WOE (D20)

  1. 1. Target receives D6 fiery lashes (1 fire damage / each).

  2. Target makes a Phys check. If they fail, they gain D3 levels of exhaustion as they enter a violent dancing fit that lasts an EXPLORATION TURN.

  3. Target’s feet appear like those of a giant rooster until the next sunrise. They can be disguised, but not hidden or dispelled (save for a Miracle).

  4. The target’s Presence increases by 1.

  5. The target is afflicted with Sheyd Pox (1 level of Exhaustion / TRAVEL TURN until a successful Phys save is passed).

  6. The target chooses whether their Presence or Physique increases by 1.

  7. Target takes D8 toxic damage as the light of the moon shines out from within their diaphragm.

  8. The target smells so delicious that wild beasts frenzy at the smell of them, unless the target engages in Carousing once every New Moon (DOWNTIME TURN).

  9. Target takes D10 damage as their bones distend and jitter to a tune that none can hear, dancing themselves to pieces.

  10.  The flesh of the target’s feet melt away, replaced with rooster feet that can be hidden but not disguised. Small horns sprout on their brow.

  11. The target loses their capacity to love until the next sunrise, but can turn invisible while clenching their dominant hand.

  12. Any and all chariots, buggies, wagons or steeds buck away from the approach of the target, until the target throws themselves under a moving vehicle.

  13. The target’s face is warped to advertise their worst sin: make a Pres SAVE or have their Pres halved permanently.

  14. Target’s bones become hollow and leathery, bat-like wings sprout from their back. They permanently lose D6 Physique and gain that many movement dice with their wings.

  15. Night becomes as bright as day, and day as dark as night for the target.

  16. Sorceries and miracles falter in the immediate area of the target while they are dancing lasciviously.

  17. All within 30 feet must make a Pres saving throw or be lashed with D6 fiery lashes (1 damage / each). This damage can only be healed after the victim dances on the grave (or rooftop) of a righteous person.

  18. The target gains +2 Presence, and two bony growths sprout on their brow. Each day after this, the target must make a Mind saving throw. If the target successfully makes three saving throws in a row, the horns recede. If they fail three times in a row they are turned into a Sheyd with horns crowned with rays of light, complete with rooster feet and vestigial wings.

  19. The next time the target sleeps, make a Presence saving throw. If they fail, as they sleep, a great chariot made from bone and moonlight crashes down from the sky, crushing every bone in their body and killing them instantly. The chariot disappears after.

  20. 20. The target feels something writhing under their skin, making a Pres saving throw. If they fail, their body is consumed by writhing rose thorns, killing them instantly. The roses on this bush can cure any illness, but the thorns carry the deadly venom of Samael.
